Staring Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino and Unforgiven) as Blondie, Eli Wallach (The Magnificent Seven and The Godfather Part 3) as Tuco and Lee Van Cleef (For a Few Dollars More and Escape from New York) as Sentenza/Angel Eyes. The Good the Bad and the Ugly was the third film in the Dollars Trilogy and wasæwritten and directed by Sergio Leone who also wrote and directed A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965).
You follow the three main gunslingers as they find there own unique way to the treasure, traveling amid the violent chaos of gunfights, hangings, American Civil War battles and prison camps. This movie really has it all, I know there are a lot of Westerns out there and especially around the time The Good the Bad and the Ugly æcame out. But this is truly an epic, 161 minutes, yes it is long but the movie itself is fantastic. There wasn't even any talking for the first 10 minutes, that would never happen in a movie today. The acting is great, really believable and they all pull you into a Western world, you believe you are there with them. This is helped by the way its shot, because it looks fantastic the scenery is breathtaking and I'm sure this influenced many directors over the years.
One of the best things about the movie is the soundtrack, it has to be one of the best soundtrack's ever. Just bloody fantastic, we have all heard these songs before, either used in a commercial or other movie scenes. Truly epic from start to finish, it does look a little dated now, but it is over 45 years old and is still a great watch. It reminds me of playing Red Dead Redemption, the soundtrack the scenery are very similar and the acting is almost identical, I think these guys took a lot of inspiration from The Good the Bad and the Ugly which shows it's still relevant and influential on today's story tellers. If you haven't before or not in a long time watch The Good the Bad and the Ugly, you will enjoy it. I know I did.
